50,000 Canadians served in the American Civil War. 4 men attained the rank of full General in the Union Army. 29 men won the Congressional Medal of Honour. John A. Huff was reported to have shot CS General J.E.B. Stuart. Dr. Solomon Secord of Kincardine, ON served as surgeon with the 20th Georgia with the only Confederate monument in Canada. At least 2 dozen Canadians were killed, wounded or missing in the 3 day battle of Gettysburg.
