About Collingwood Downtown BIA
Collingwood Downtown is a not-for-profit organization established for the main purpose of revitalizing the central business district of the Town of Collingwood. The organization is designated as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) through the Ontario Municipal Act and a Town of Collingwood By-law originally enacted in 1977.
In 2004, an expansion process was undertaken and a new By-law enacted which increased the original area of the BIA to mirror the downtown core area that has been designated provincially as an historic district.
Collingwood Downtown is governed by volunteer Board of Directors consisting of eight members elected from the downtown business community and property owners and a council representative. The election is conducted by ballot during the municipal election year, and the results are then forwarded to Council for appointment.
The association is funded by a levy placed on the property taxes of each owner within the designated boundaries. The budget is presented to the general membership each year for discussion and approved by Council.
During the past years, Collingwood Downtown has undergone a series of strategic planning sessions, including participation in the creation of the Vision 2020 Blueprint document. The results of these strategies are used in guiding the organization.
Widespread and continuing support from the local businesses and the surrounding community is essential to the success of the downtown. Collingwood Downtown welcomes volunteer, business and community participation in all areas of the association, including a number of committees that would benefit greatly from your input.
Now, Collingwood Downtown has launched an exciting new marketing plan to improve the service, selection and overall enjoyment of visiting our nationally recognized downtown heritage district.
